AXE 1 - Cholinergic modulation of the visual pathways

The research hypothesis is that the cholinergic system (involved in attention and memory) would create perceptual learning, i.e., long-term modification of the visual perception through control of cortical plasticity and attentional processes.

The aim of the this research axis is to determine the role of neurotransmitters in the visual processing, especially the role of neuromodulators such as acetylcholine in modifying the cortical representation of specific stimuli and the cortical plasticity.

This project includes the study of how the visual stimuli are integrated by the cortical networks (including learning, memory and attentional processes) and the interaction between the cholinergic fibers and local GABAergic and glutamatergic neurons.
